Frequently asked questions
What is the Chapter 35 full-time rate right now?
Official $1,621 per full month for college or non-college degree programs (Oct 1, 2026 – Sep 30, 2027).
Can a spouse get DIC and Chapter 35 together?
Often yes. A surviving spouse may receive Dependency and Indemnity Compensation and still use DEA for education. This is a planning note only — confirm eligibility with VA.
What about children and DIC vs DEA?
Children’s rules differ and can involve choosing between benefits in some situations. Do not assume the same stacking as spouses. Use VA’s award letter or a accredited VSO; this calculator does not decide eligibility.
Is this an official VA tool?
No. Planning aid only. Not affiliated with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. Not legal advice.
